What Are The Precautions For Purchasing And Using Centrifuge Tubes

Centrifuge tubes, ie tubular sample containers, can be provided with sealing caps or glands.

According to the volume can be divided into:

Large capacity centrifuge tubes (500mL, 250mL), etc.

Ordinary centrifuge tubes (50mL, 15mL), etc.

Microcentrifuge tubes (2mL, 1.5mL, 0.65mL, 0.2mL), etc.

By material

1. Glass centrifuge tubes

Due to the brittle quality of such centrifuge tubes, glass tubes are generally not used in high-speed centrifuges, and the amount of use is not large.

2. Steel centrifuge tubes

The steel centrifuge tube has high strength, no deformation, heat resistance, freezing resistance and chemical corrosion resistance.

3. Plastic centrifuge tubes

The advantages of plastic centrifuge tubes are that they are transparent or translucent, have low hardness, can be used to remove gradients by puncture, and are inexpensive. The disadvantage is that it is easy to deform, has poor corrosion resistance to organic solvents, and has a short service life.

According to the shape of the bottom of the tube

1. Conical centrifuge tubes

Precaution

High-speed refrigerated centrifuge

1. Those who are not trained and tested cannot use it.

2. Select the appropriate rotor and speed, do not use it at the fastest speed.

3. Choose a suitable temperature, generally 4°C. Except for organic solvents, it should not be below zero, so as to avoid freezing and damage to the centrifuge tube and rotor.

4. Before turning the head, the pipe must be wiped with a hole cleaning rod, and the bottom of the hole must be carefully checked for cracks and white spots. If so, turn around and scrap.

5. The volume of solution loaded into the centrifuge tube must be appropriate. Stainless steel tube without cap can only fit 2/3, plastic tube can be loaded on shoulder. The cap must be tightly closed and no leakage is allowed. Empty tubes can be deformed by centrifugation. The use of organic solvents in plastic pipes must comply with regulations.

6. The centrifuge tubes must be placed in pairs and must be strictly balanced, with a deviation of <0.1g.

7. No rotor idling is not allowed. The handle must be used to prevent the rotor from slipping. The swivel head should be lowered gently and locked firmly. When unscrewing the handle, hold the handle with your hand and turn only the head. The rotor cover should be tightly closed, and no centrifugation is allowed without the cover.

8. It is strictly forbidden to open the cover during centrifugation, and it is strictly forbidden to leave it on the centrifuge. If there is abnormal sound and vibration, the machine will stop immediately.

9. After the rotor is used, it must be taken out of the rotor chamber in time and dried, and the pipe hole should be carefully cleaned with a hole scraper. If the solution spills, it must be cleaned, wipe the condensation from the rotor chamber, and open the door to dry the rotor chamber.

10. The use of the centrifuge must be reserved and must be registered after use.

Ordinary centrifuge

1. Before centrifugation, carefully inspect the rotor for foreign objects.

2. The centrifuge tube must be carefully equilibrated.

3. If the machine room is not clean, the centrifuge tube should be sealed with plastic film.

4. Start slowly, then accelerate.

5. Do not open the lid during centrifugation.

6. Do not use the handbrake.

2. Round bottom centrifuge tubes

According to the shape of the cap

Centrifuge tube with cap

2. Sleeve type centrifuge tube

3. Spiral centrifuge tube

The role of the cap

The biggest role is to prevent sample leakage, especially when used for radioactive or highly corrosive samples. Another function is to prevent sample evaporation and support the centrifuge tube to prevent deformation of the centrifuge tube.

Centrifuge tube material

The commonly used materials for plastic centrifuge tubes are polyethylene (PE), polycarbonate (PC), polypropylene (PP), etc. Among them, polypropylene PP centrifuge tubes have better performance.

Precautions for buying centrifuge tubes

When choosing plastic centrifuge tubes, try to consider polypropylene PP plastic centrifuge tubes. During the test, pay attention to check whether the tube cover is tight and tight, so as to prevent the liquid from hanging upside down and leaking.
